first concert: B52's
So my first concert experience was the B52's at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland on June 22, 1990. Ziggy Marley opened for them and was awesome. My sister Stephanie took me and we brought a blanket and sat on the lawn. I was 11 and was taking it all in. I remember being so excited to see the band. This was before they had screens and I was little so I am sure they looked so far away but I didn't care. I was at an actual concert! From what I remember the band did not disappoint. Something that I will never forget was during the song "Deadbeat club" some really drunk dude behind us fell over and spilled his beer all over us. My sister was like, "how the hell am I going to explain this to Sandy"(my mom). It turned out it wasn't a big deal and my mom understood but I'm sure it was nerve wracking for my sister. This concert led to my passion of seeing live music. If you know me well I always love(d) going to see my favorite bands in person and discovering new music in the opening acts. Sometimes the openers became my new favorite(coughthebreederscough).
